Twin Cups in South Fulton just the right “cup of tea” for community

Twin Cups is now open at 127 Broadway, in South Fulton.

While owners Clay and Cassie Jones already have a full plate in operating Jones Logistics Trucking, C & C Farms, C & C Excavating LLC, farming and hunting related leases and enterprises, when an opportunity arose to purchase a property on Broadway in South Fulton, Clay said he still lives by advice given to him by his grandfather.

“He always said, don’t put all your eggs in one basket. So it’s important to me to have a diversified portfolio,” he said, in an interview last week.

Cassie said in giving consideration to the type of business to open, she realized many people she knew drive to neighboring communities to enjoy specialty coffees and other beverages, so as the Twin Cities did not offer that type of business, the decision was made.

While major renovations were being made to the building, Cassie, herself, attended Texas Coffee School, to learn the tricks of the trade and hone her barista skills. She also finds it important to utilize local businesses and expressed her appreciation to Vantage Coffee in Union City, where all syrups and beans are purchased for Twin Cups.

Clay and Cassie both expressed their gratitude to Kevin and Stacie Herrell, owners of Vantage Coffee, for their help in providing products, and assisting in set up and equipment placement for Twin Cups.

She also uses Honeysuckle Hill, and owner Brandi Cantrell for customized merchandise, as well as HD Graphics and owner Daniel Thomas of Fulton, for displays in the establishment.

LeeAnn Thomas is the Manager of the business, with assistance from Josie Wilds, whose family also once owned and operated a similar business in Fulton. At the present time, the business employs 18 full-time and/or part-time employees.

Three generations of family members play a part in the day to day operations of Twin Cups, with two of their high school aged children working there.

Cassie credits her sister-in-law for the business name.

“We came up with lots of ideas...things like Twin City Perk. My sister-in-law said there are already so many businesses with the name Twin Cities in them, so what about Twin Cups? I liked it, so that’s what we went with,” Cassie said.

On the menu, is breakfast time favorites, such as biscuits and gravy, avocado toast, muffins, quiches, cinnamon rolls and a variety of pastries. For lunch, customers can enjoy freshly made salads, sandwiches on white or wheat bread or croissants, and no shortage of mouth watering desserts.

From a large listing of iced and hot coffee options, smoothies, slushies, flavored iced teas and nitro infused teas, to hard-to-find gluten free menu options, patrons will be able to enjoy a meal, snack or pick-me-up at a type of business which has previously only been available by driving out of town.

Clay said menu options could be changed or revised after a few weeks, once it is determined what customers want to have available. The couple agrees they will keep options open for hours of operation as well, according to need.

The biggest challenges faced, both Clay and Cassie said, came from major renovations and upgrades required in the structure of the building they purchased.

“Sometimes I wonder if it would have been cheaper just to tear it down and build a new one,” Clay said.

But he is optimistic about the downtown area and the recent significant growth in the business community.

“Right now, there is a lot of good energy being put in to this area. There is a lot of growth. Both of those things, the energy and growth, can be contagious,” Clay said.

There is room for expansion within the property, as only a portion of the entire building is occupied by Twin Cups. Use as an entirely different type of business, renting the space out to another entrepreneur, or offering the sapce as a venue for smaller gatherings have been options considered.

On April 24, from 4-6 p.m., a pop-up event at Twin Cups will feature Permalinks jewelry, with the public invited.

There is ample room inside for enjoying a beverage in one of the sofa seating areas, as well as tables and chairs for sampling a breakfast or lunch menu selection, adjacent to the hand-painted original Twin Cities mural.

A convenient drive through window is accessible from Broadway, for food and beverage orders. Call in orders area also available to local businesses, free delivery, minimum order of $20.
