After experiencing collection issues with persons writing “bad checks” to the City of South Fulton, the City’s business office will begin using scanner technology to instantly guarantee checks written to the city effective Nov. 19.

After experiencing bad check amounts up to $4,000 per month, the South Fulton Mayor and Commissioners instructed city manager Jeff Gobbert to do what was necessary to make sure that the checks received are covered by funds in the bank.

The city has partnered with Simmons Bank and BancCard Co. to purchase the equipment and systems to provide immediate feedback if a check with insufficient funds is presented, or if the person presenting the check has a history of passing bad checks.

All checks will be processed immediately upon presentation and voided at the counter including those put in the drop box or mailed.

To offset the cost of the system the city will begin adding an additional $0.40 per check received.

Cash transactions, money orders and credit/debit cards will continue to be accepted with no additional fee.
