A project spearheaded by Marshal Alexander American Legion Post 72 of Fulton will culminate with a dedication ceremony June 14 at Fulton’s Pontotoc Park.

According to Don Robertson, Commander of the Post, the ceremony to honor Veterans of WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam with a three-slab monument will begin at 11 a.m. that day, and the public is invited to share in the official dedication.

Those who would like to contribute to the funding for the monument may make a donation at Fulton’s Reelfoot Bank, at One Bankers Place, where the Marshal Alexander American Legion Post has an account, or mail the contribution directly to the Post at P.O. Box 1224, Fulton, Ky. 42041.

The Fulton City Commission previously approved the placement of the monument in Pontotoc Park.

The center slab of the memorial is six feet tall at its center point, and honors World War I and World War II Veterans. The insignia of the United States Army, United States Air Force, United States Marine Corp and the United States Navy are included on the center slab, as well as the slab to each side of the center, honoring the Vietnam War Veterans and the Korean War Veterans.

According to Robertson, the United States Coast Guard insignia will be added to each slab in the near future.

Refreshments will be available following the program, Robertson said, which should last approximately 30 minutes.
