Bulldogs’ positions dependent on game knowledge

“We are hoping to really learn the game and be the best team we can be by the end of the year,” said Head Baseball Coach Daniel Farmer, referencing his Fulton High School Bulldogs’ 2019 season.

One plus for the team is that only a couple of players are new to the team sport, Blake Blankenship and Hunter Hayes. Everyone else on the Bulldogs’ roster has played before, including seniors Drew Malray, Nic Lucy, Trinity Tibbs, Jaron Pryor and Keith Martin.

Malray, Tibbs and Pryor, according to Farmer, have “really stepped into some leadership responsibilities for me so far. I am looking for more leadership on the field from those three, and more.”

Juniors included on the roster are Hayes, Jakiran Donald and Zion Yisreal; sophomores, Cade Malray, Kire Tribble and Blake Nicholas and eighth grader Blake Blankenship.

While Coach Farmer indicates most positions are still “up for grabs”, he is pretty solid on Tibbs at third, and Pryor in left field. Other than those two positions, he will continue to evaluate a rotation of different Bulldogs in different spots until all the pieces of the 2019 season puzzle fit together.

“We are certainly counting on a lot of people to play solid defense for us, since we really are not very deep on the mound,” Farmer said.

As to the outlook from the coach, fast forwarding to mid-season, Farmer said in reference to “record” predictions, it has not been a focus so far.

“We are just trying to produce a good team by the end of this season,” he said.
