Pecan Festival underway Sept. 3 - 7

Hickman Recreation and Tourism – HRTCC will celebrate the 26th Anniversary of the Hickman Pecan Festival Sept. 3 through 7 with a variety of events for those of all ages.

The Festival will begin Sept. 3, with Sacred Heart Catholic Church’s annual hamburger and hot dog supper at 4:30 p.m., followed with Bingo at 6 p.m.

Sept. 4 will feature the Community Prayer on the Bluff at 6 p.m., located on the bluff next to the twin water towers on Moscow Ave.

Jeff Green Memorial Park, Bernal Ave., is the site for the annual Kid’s Night in the Park Sept. 5, from 5 through 8 p.m.

A Pecan Festival Bake-Off will be held with all baked goods to be submitted by Sept. 6 at 6 p.m., at Jeff Green Memorial Park, to be judged along with a $5 entry fee. Categories include pies, cakes, cookies, and miscellaneous, in two age divisions, 18 and under and 19 and over. Winners of the categories will be announced after every entry has been judged. Each category will be awarded first, second and third place, with ribbons to take home.

There will also be an overall Pecan Festival Bake-Off winner, receiving an award of $50 and a plaque for having the best pecan recipe out of all entries.

Dustin Hamlin of Troy, Tenn., return again this year to perform Sept. 6 starting at 6 p.m., at Jeff Green Memorial Park. He has performed in various bands including marching, jazz, Motown, rock and country.

Overwatch is a band from Kentucky, playing classic rock, blues, and southern country. They will perform following Dustin Hamlin from 7:30 – 9 p.m.

The five-member band included Ryker Cagle on vocals/rhythm guitar, Tristan Reilly on lead guitar, Bryant Henderson on bass, Dallas Patey on drums, and Benjie Crawford on harmonica/keyboard.

The group started as a high school rock ‘n roll band with Cagle, Reilly, and Patey. They have played in festivals, and other events around the region.

Reilly’s grandfather, Bryant Henderson, joined years later, and with him Benjie Crawford joined.

Vendors will also be set up in the park on Friday night.

Sept. 7 will be the “Big Day at the Park”, with music, vendors, raffles, and inflatables. There will be a fee of $25 to reserve a spot to sell items at the park.

Amanda Joyce, one of the slated performers, will be on stage from 11 – 11:45 a.m. She started singing at an early age in Chicago, Ill.

According to her press release, she currently serves as the Praise and Worship Leader at Living Water Worship Assembly in Paducah, Ky., under the leadership of Senior Leader Latasha Culkin.

Her musical experience began by singing at church in Chicago, which led into singing with as well as directing, college and church choirs across the state of Illinois.

In January 2018, she released her first single entitled, “Be Free”, which spreads the message of accepting God-given identity, and will soon release her second project entitled “A Different Place”.

Over the years, her musical background also included singing with several recording artist such as Monique Whittington, Pastor Andre Crittenden, New Direction, A Different Sound, Bryan Wilson, and New City Mass Youth Choir.

Her goal, she says, is to “aggressively spread the message of Jesus to the masses.

Overwatch will perform starting at 12:15; followed by Leather and Lace at 1:15 p.m.

AC 43 is a blues, rock, country band based out of Union City, Tenn., who will perform on Saturday at 2:15 p.m., followed by the headliner Jordan Skoda and the Damwrights at 3:00 p.m.

The Senior Citizens of Fulton County, located at 1414 Liberty St., will have a Yard Sale in conjunction with the Pecan Festival.
