Hickman Co. community making ‘Healthy’ choice

by Becky Meadows

Healthy Hickman County hosted a groundbreaking community garden conversation July 10 at the Henley Park Apartments in Clinton.

Kaitlyn Krolikowski and Cynthia Turner told attendees that everyone can help to improve their community and make it a healthier place. Krolikowski said one way to do that is to participate in walking surveys that help to determine where work needs to be done on sidewalks. “When you improve the overall quality of life in your community, it will bring restaurants and places of employment,” Krolikowski said.

Door prizes for the event were provided by Texas Roadhouse, Four Rivers Behavioral Health, Lemon Tree, ICF, Clinton Pharmacy, and the Purchase District Health Department. The tumblers, water bottles, and gift cards were purchased with part of a $250 stipend that was received from the Kentucky Department of Public Health for the community conversation to take place.

The Purchase Area Master Food Volunteers gave out recipe samples with recipes. The Hickman County Cooperative Extension Service gave away kitchen utensils to visitors. Texas Roadhouse donated the meal for the event. The Second Baptist Church youth group worked to make progress on the community garden.

The following businesses and organizations are providing services and materials for the community garden:

• The City of Clinton maintenance workers will dig the border.

• Hickman County Road Department will haul the gravel.

• Integrity Ag group is donating the gravel.

• Stella Jones donated the railroad ties.

• Lowes donated the soil and border.
