by Benita Fuzzell

The 2018-2019 fiscal year budget for the City of South Fulton was presented in its first reading to South Fulton city officials, with a second and final reading set for Aug. 6 at 3:30 p.m. in special called session. The second reading will be the single item on the meeting’s agenda and the meeting is open to the public.

In addition to the first reading of the budget, the establishment of a city tax rate for real and personal property was determined, decreasing from $1.74 per $100 assessed value, to $1.6748 per $100 assessed value. Gabbert reported although there was a decrease in the tax rate, approximately the same amount of tax revenue would be collected, as this year the county reassessed property, with an increase in assessed value.

Gabbert read information included in the new city budget, which included listings of FY 2017 Actual, FY 2018 Estimated Actual and FY 2019 proposed budget figures in the General Fund, Drug Fund, Ambulance Fund, State Street Fund, Solid Waste Fund, Gas Fund, Water Fund and Sewer Fund.

Capital projects were referenced in each of the funds as well, to include proposed amounts financed by appropriations.
