A recent agreement between two area groups will be a positive step forward for both, as the Fulton County Transit Authority began transporting Clinton and Hickman County residents to the Hickman County Senior Citizen Center as well as delivering meals from the center to senior citizens’ homes throughout the area July 16, according to Fulton County Transit Authority Executive Director Kenney Etherton.

“This is an effort to help Hickman County Senior Citizens Center save money and for us to provide better public transportation in one of the four counties that we serve,” said Etherton. “This is a positive step forward in building relationships and sharing our resources. I’m a firm believer in ‘sharing our toys’ in today’s economy to be good stewards of taxpayer money,” he added.

This agreement will give FCTA a daily presence in Hickman County as well as the opportunity to provide daily transportation in the area.

Although the senior center is the primary purpose of the move, all residents in the area may benefit from the public transportation offering.

The Transit driver will be no stranger to area residents. Mike Reilly, a Hickman County resident, will be the primary driver.

Reilly will be familiar with the routes in the area as well as the people who will be utilizing the services.

Brock Tucker, Reilly’s backup driver, is also a Hickman County resident.

Operating hours for the service will be 6 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Those interested in utilizing the service may call the FCTA office at 270-472-0662.

The cost per trip is $3 within Clinton and $8 from the county to Clinton or from Clinton to the county.
