Gov. Beshear reports 50 new cases in KY (3/26/20)

Gov. Andy Beshear announced 50 new confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Kentucky.

Beshear addressed the public in a press conference on Thursday afternoon at the Kentucky State Capitol Building in Frankfort.

Beshear says this is the largest single-day increase of positive cases in the state so far, but stresses that the number is relatively low when compared to other states.

No COVID-19-related deaths were reported.

248 cases in total have been recorded statewide, while six more cases are still unconfirmed.

Beshear says the next few weeks are critical to slowing down the spread of COVID-19.

“This is a test of our humanity – about how much we care about each other. I am doing everything I can to make sure we pass the test and I know you are, too,” Beshear said. “The next two to three weeks are absolutely critical to what they call blunting the curve. This is the time where our actions mean the most in not spreading the virus. It’s going to take however long it takes to defeat the coronavirus the first time.”

Wednesday, Gov. Beshear announced the first case of someone with COVID-19 who went on spring break to Florida and came back. He is urging spring breakers to self-isolate.
