In an effort to promote observance of the Center for Disease Control’s minimum recommended guidelines for social distancing at six feet between persons, as well as to be able to enforce the state requirement of no more than 10 people to gather in any one area at a time, during the current outbreak and pandemic of COVID-19, effective immediately, all city owned basketball courts, baseball fields and softball fields will be closed to the public.

According to Fulton City Manager Mike Gunn signage and barriers have been put in place at each site, to designate the closures.

The action, in part, was taken following observations of more than 10 people, in close proximity, using the areas designated.

“We must, as a community, follow the CDC guidelines on social or physical distancing to combat the COVID-19, Coronavirus,” said Gunn.

The designated areas will be closed until further notice, however, all other areas of the city’s parks and green spaces will remain open to the public.

In regard to playground equipment at any of the park locations, Gunn reminded the public that equipment and other structures in the parks have not been sanitized, and precautions should be taken in the event they are utilized, including personal hygiene before and after visits.

“We regret to have to make these closures, but feel it is in the best public interest to do so, for the safety of the public,” Gunn said.
