The 2018 Battle at the Bridge High School event sponsored by Titleist was held Aug. 4, at Old Bridge Golf Club in Danville.
In a day that saw a total of 13 players break the par barrier of 72, Cooper Parks was the hottest player on the course as his 63 led to not only Medalist Honors, but also to a team Championship in the event.
St. X junior and defending tournament champion Drew Doyle finished runner up with a 68 followed by Patrick Kennedy of Covington Catholic who also shot 68.
Tyler Abernathy, who made the five hour trip to Danville from Hickman County, shot a personal best 69 to finish fourth in the sun and humidity, with Benton Williams of St. X rounding out the All Tournament Team with a 70.

Abernathy is the son of Michael and Melinda Abernathy of Clinton, and the grandson of Charles and Bertha Davis, of Clinton, and Betty Abernathy, of Hickman.

The annual event showcases 20 high schools from Pikeville to Hickman County in what has quickly become the strongest field in Kentucky High School Golf. Players from each school in the field are rewarded with Titleist balls and gloves along with contests that allow the players to compete in Long Drive, Putting and Chipping. Defending Tournament Champion St. X of Louisville finished runner up in the event with a score of 280 which was five shots off the Tournament Record score Taylor County Posted in cruising to victory with a 13 shot under par 275.

This marked the sixth year of the Battle at the Bridge and Taylor County joins schools St. X (two times), Trinity, Lexington Christian, and North Oldham as team champions.
