Benefit for Hickman County ‘Hidden Treasure’ initiated

Few people in Hickman, Fulton, or Graves counties have not been greeted by Darrell Sims’ warm smile and friendly hello. A lifetime resident of Clinton, Kentucky, who has been named as Ambassador of Hickman County and recently received the “Hidden Treasure Award” by the Mayfield City Council touches the hearts of everyone he meets.

Hickman County Attorney Jason Batts has organized a fundraising effort for Darrell Sims and his nephew, Thomas Sims, who are in need of an air conditioner. The A/C unit at their house went out earlier in the summer, and Kevin Canty of Canty Heating and Air fixed it for free, but warned the unit needed to be replaced. The unit stopped working during the first week of August.
Although both men work faithfully, they are unable to afford the cost of a new central air conditioning unit. Thomas Sims, who is an employee of Walmart in Fulton was recently injured on the job and is unable to work while he awaits back surgery to repair his injury.

Due to the house being a Habitat for Humanity home, a home equity loan to cover the cost of the new unit is not an option.

Anyone interested in helping, can drop off or mail a donation to Clinton Bank or First Community Bank in Clinton. Checks should be made out to The Mission House, with Thomas or Darrell Sims noted in the memo line.
Batts said, “The community has really come together for this, which has been great to see! Kevin Canty is even donating the labor to install the air conditioning unit.”
