Extra points spoil SFHS win
The South Fulton Red Devils were one extra point conversion away from picking up a win last Friday night.
The Red Devils scored three touchdowns, including the last one with less than a minute to play, but failed to convert each time in a 19-18 loss at Greenfield.
After a scoreless first quarter, running back Greg Davis gave South Fulton a 6-0 halftime lead, with a 12-yard scamper into the endzone.
In the third quarter, Greenfield took a 7-6 lead when Nyrail Jackson crossed the goal line following a 56-yard run.
This touchdown included an extra point kick, which proved to be the determining factor on the night.
The fourth quarter proved to be a shoot-out, as the Yellow Jackets took a 13-6 advantage at the 9:06 mark, when Jackson scored again on a 23-yard run.
The Red Devils would not go away, as Bryce McFarland completed a six-yard touchdown pass to Dalton Gray to cut the lead to 13-12.
Again for the second time, the South Fulton two-point conversion was stopped.
With 6:00 on the scoreboard, it was Jackson scoring his third touchdown of the night for Greenfield, this one coming on a 26-yard run for a 19-12 lead.
South Fulton would not be denied a final opportunity to win the game, with Greg Davis again bolting into the endzone on a four-yard run with :54 remaining.
But, the Red Devils game winning two point conversion was stopped by the Yellow Jacket defense.
On the night, South Fulton recorded 214 yards rushing, with Davis leading the way with 121-yards on 21 carries.
Also in the game, Dalton Gray had 66-yards and Micheal Reeves 16-yards.
Greenfield’s Nyrail Jackson led all rushers with 170-yards.
The Red Devils are now (0-2) and will travel this week to play Gibson County.
