Barclay named Asst. Director of Schools for Obion County

A South Fulton native and 1998 graduate of South Fulton High School has been named Assistant Director of Schools for the Obion County School System.

Dr. Greg Barclay will replace Dale Hollowell at that post, following Hollowell’s recent announcement of his retirement.

According to Director of Schools Tim Watkins, he informed the staff within the school system on Friday, of the appointment.

“I am pleased to announce that Dr. Greg Barclay has accepted the position of Assistant Director of Schools beginning July 1, 2021,” Watkins said Monday morning.
“I am excited about the opportunity to work closely with him in providing our students with the best possible educational opportunities,” he said.

Barclay earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and his Master’s in Education from University of Tennessee Chattanooga. He earned his Master’s of Education in Secondary Education from UT-Chattanooga as well, then an Education Specialist Degree in School Administration from Murray State University.
He received his Doctorate in Leadership/Policy Studies from the University of Memphis.

Barclay taught English and psychology at South Fulton Middle/High School and also taught at the University of Tennessee Martin as an adjunct professor, and taught dual credit English at Dyersburg State Community College.

He then served first as Assistant Principal beginning in 2012 at Obion County Central High School, stepping into the Principal’s role at OCCHS in 2016 until 2018.

In 2019, Barclay began serving as the Obion County School System’s Special Education Supervisor.

His wife, Carmen teaches Health Sciences at South Fulton High School and their two children attend South Fulton schools. They reside in Union City, where he said he enjoys spending time with his family and exercising.

Barclay is the son of Ted and Linda Barclay of South Fulton.
