Public alerted to Fire Hazard season

Scott Smith, Deputy EM with the Hickman County Office of Emergency Management, has alerted the public to Forest Fire Hazard Seasons, and Open Burning Regulations, according to the Kentucky Revised Statute 149.400 and 401 KAR 63:005, respectively.

According to Smith, During fire seasons, it is illegal to burn anything within 150 feet of any woodland or bushland between the hours of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Fall Forest Fire Hazard Season runs Oct. 1-Dec. 15 and Spring Forest Fire Hazard Season is Feb. 15-April 30.

Open burning regulations are enforced by the Division for Air Quality.

During this time, it is illegal to burn garbage or any other materials except natural plant matter such as brush and woody debris.
