U.S. REP. COMER’S VISIT – Representing Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District, U.S. Rep. James Comer made a visit to Fulton May 29, to conduct a town hall meeting at The Meadows Hotel. Approximately 75 area citizens gathered to hear updates from Rep. Comer regarding issues associated with the Farm Bill, which recently failed on the House Floor, an action according to Comer which could be remedied following anticipated moves on immigration. He explained his convictions on welfare reform, stating he would like to see more people “off welfare and into the workforce” and addressed the significance of China holding a “competitive advantage” in regard to having “more stability than Mexico, no environmental or minimum wage laws” and a disregard for “trade laws”. The Representative also shared information relating to school safety, and the need for resources to be made available to local school systems for help in acquiring items such as metal detectors. Following his address to those in attendance, the floor was opened for questions from constituents. (Photo by Benita Fuzzell)
