UPDATE: U.S. 45 Temporarily Closed at 1.1mm in Fulton Due to Large Pothole in Railroad Overpass

Repair effort expected to allow roadway to reopen late Thursday

PADUCAH, Ky. (January 10, 2024) – Last night, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and the City of Fulton closed a section of U.S. 45/North Highland Drive in Fulton where a large pothole had developed in the deck of a railroad overpass about 3/10ths of a mile east of the KY 166 intersection.

This closure is along U.S. 45/North Highland Drive at mile point 1.1 between Deere Street and College Street.

This morning, the KYTC District 1 Bridge Crew started repairs. They are in the process of pouring a concrete patch in the bridge deck. Concrete used for the repair will require about 24 hours to cure. Engineers anticipate placing a temporary steel plate over the repaired area will allow the bridge to reopen to traffic sometime late in the day on Thursday.

There is no marked detour. Motorists should continue to self-detour via the Purchase Parkway between Exit 1 and Exit 2 in Fulton.

KYTC District 1 will provide timely notice when the overpass is reopened to traffic. Again, this section of U.S. 45 in Fulton is expected to remain closed until late Thursday afternoon
