F.B.I. INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY; SCHOOL DISTRICT'S UNACCOUNTED FUNDS COULD BE RECOVERED THROUGH INSURANCE, BONDING COMPANY

January 11, 2024

Fulton Independent School District Superintendent Jeff Rogers confirmed today that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is now looking into an audit finding which resulted in the discovery of a $1.1 million shortfall in what the district had available in funds, and what the reported beginning balance of the 2023-2024 budget reflected.

Rogers said following the recent district audit presented, and after having forwarded information to the Kentucky Department of Education for review, he did consult with local law enforcement, and with Fulton Police Department's recommendation, agreed to contact and consult with the FBI regarding the unaccounted funds. That agency is now conducting an investigation.

Rogers said that the district had contacted the insurance company which holds bonds for the FISD finance director position, to initiate an investigation, and has filed a claim with the company which holds the district's liability insurance policy, after having recognized a clause in the policy allows for claims to be considered regarding employee negligence.

"Claims have been initiated, in hopes of recovering whatever we can, for the district from these claims," Rogers said.
