District win could position 2024 Lady Devils’ State appearance

by Benita Fuzzell

Winning the District Tournament will put the South Fulton High School Lady Red Devils’ Softball Team in a good position to advance to the state level of competition for the 2024 season, and 27-year Head Coach Curt Lee would like nothing more than to see his final year coaching softball end in the same manner as his SFHS Girls’ basketball season finale.

The 2023 Lady Red Devils softball team finished with a 15 and nine record, runner up in the District, and every young lady listed on this year’s roster was a part of that team, with the exception of eighth grader Gabi Long.

He will be assisted this year by Kasie McClanahan and Jessica Hightower this season.

Lee sees Aubree and Anna Gore and Abbi McFarland, the three seniors, in leadership roles for the team.

Goals are to win the district tournament. That will put us in a good spot to go to state

Aubree Gore will be on third base, while Anna Gore will be set at short stop. McFarland will oversee left field.

Junior representation on the roster will include pitcher Maddie Gray, who will also see time in center field; Hadley Barnes, in right field; Anna Claire Barnes on first base; and Chloe Liliker in right field.

Sophomore class team members are Ivy Morris, who takes on the catcher’s duties; Piper Lusk, at second base; Caroline Barclay, who will pitch and cover right field; and Lexie Lee, rotating between catcher and pitcher.

Eighth grader Gabi Long will come in as catcher.
