Fulton location for Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration's distribution of grant funds

PIPELINE AND HAZARDOUS MATERIALS SAFETY ADMINISTRATION TO VISIT FULTON, KENTUCKY TO DISTRIBUTE GRANTS TO FIX OLD, LEAKY, NATURAL GAS PIPES, IMPROVE PUBLIC SAFETY AND REDUCE ENERGY COSTS 

  Washington, D.C. – The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) will

hold an in-person press briefing to announce historic investments in Kentucky’s energy

infrastructure, at Fulton's Pontotoc Park community building, 100 West State Line, April 23 at 1 p.m. 

Recipients of funding include: City of Fulton, City of Murray, and Leitchfield Utilities Commission.

The event is open to the public.

The Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure Safety and Modernization (NGDISM)

grant program is aimed at mitigating safety risk and methane emissions from the highest-risk,

legacy natural gas distribution pipes. The grant program, established by President Biden’s

historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, is providing over $392 million in total awards this year as

part of its goal of issuing nearly $1 billion over five years for the modernization of municipality-

and community-owned (not including for-profit entities) high-risk natural gas distribution

pipes—as well as equipment to detect and mitigate leaks.   

These grants aim to improve high risk, legacy pipes, creating hundreds of good-paying pipeline

jobs and modernizing infrastructure that has been around for decades and in some cases even

nearly two centuries old.
