AREA OBITUARIES – Joel H. Nabors

Joel H. Nabors, age 89, of South Fulton, Tenn., passed away peacefully Sat., Aug. 23, 2025 at his residence.

He was born on Dec. 31, 1935 in Fulton, Ky., to the late Fred Taylor Nabors and Mable Mae Croft Nabors.

He was a fine Christian Man and his faith and family were a true testament to a life well lived. A life long resident of this community, Joel will be missed by so many.

An active member of South Fulton Baptist Church, he had served as a past Deacon. Joel retired from the Fulton United States Post Office as the Assistant Post Master.

Affectionately known as Daddy Joe to his family, he wore many hats. He loved a well-manicured yard, a clean vehicle and was a great handyman. He could often be caught, whistling while he worked to keep things in top notch order. He loved to fish, attend yard sales and play cards with his friends and family. Joel loved to eat breakfast with the men at the Buttercup Bistro in Fulton.

He is survived by a daughter, Donna Nabors Taylor, of South Fulton, Tenn.; a son, Joel A. “Joey” (Lisa) Nabors, of South Fulton, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Lance (Tiffany) Taylor, of South Fulton, Tenn., Blake (Shanna) Taylor, of Mayfield, Ky., Zachary (Angie) Nabors, of South Fulton, Tenn., and Hope (Lucas) French, of Paducah, Ky.; eight great-grandchildren, Benton Taylor, Clark Taylor, Oaklyn Taylor, Logan Davis, Lily Nabors and Liam Nabors, all of South Fulton, Tenn., and Ellison French and Ezra French, both of Paducah, Ky.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Bennett Nabors, who  passed away on March 29, 2023. They married June 3, 1956 and had shared many happy years together. Joel was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Tommy J. Taylor; and a sister, Lydia Waldrop.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thurs., Aug. 28, 2025 at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in the Obion County Memorial Gardens. Dr. Ron Cox will officiate. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the hour of service.
