Red Devils improve to 2-0, shut out Humboldt

The South Fulton High School Red Devils kept the momentum rolling from their victory over Fulton County, leading to a shutout victory over the Humboldt Vikings 31-0 Fri., Sept. 5.
Josh McKnight got the Red Devils on the scoreboard with 4:12 remaining in the first quarter, running for 5 yards to score a touchdown. A Preet Chaudhari PAT made the score 7-0.
Chaudhari would add a 34-yard field goal with 6:22 remaining in the second quarter, to make the score 10-0 in South Fulton’s favor at halftime.
Quarterback Grant Joyner would connect with Charles Mike Mulcahy on a 33-yard passing touchdown with 7:54 remaining in the third quarter, and the PAT was again successful by Chaudhari to increase the Red Devils lead 17-0.
McKnight would find the endzone once again with 20 seconds remaining in the third quarter, this time from 29 yards out, and the PAT by Chaudhari was successful to put the Red Devils up 24-0 heading into the final quarter.
Mulcahy would score his second touchdown for the game, this time with a 21-yard run with 5:42 in the final quarter, and the PAT by Chaudhari was successful to end the scoring for the evening, as the Red Devils would prevail 31-0.
The Red Devils would record 317 total yards, with 226 of those yards coming on the ground and 91 yards through the air.
Quarterback Grant Joyner completed four of his six passing attempts for 91 yards and one touchdown, with two of those completions going to Jonathan Doss for 54 yards, one pass to Braden Gore for four yards, and one pass to Mulcahy for 33 yards.
On the ground, McKnight rushed for 164 yards on 21 carries, followed by Doss with 11 yards on three carries, Mulcahy 81 yards on four carries, and Joyner -30 yards on six carries.
For Humboldt, they recorded 335 total yards, as they had 241 passing yards and 94 rushing yards.
Quarterback Jaden Champion completed 19 of his 34 passing attempts for 241 yards.
Tyon Campbell had seven receptions for 104 yards, followed by Darion Taylor with four receptions for 61 yards, Tyland Richmond two receptions for 22 yards, Kavien Taylor two receptions for 19 yards, and Jeremiah Jones four receptions for 35 yards.
On the ground, Jones rushed for 64 yards on 14 carries, followed by De’Andre Emmerson 13 yards on two carries, and Champion 17 yards on 14 carries.
The Vikings had 18 first downs to the Red Devils 17 first downs, while the Vikings were penalized 15 times for 96 yards, and the Red Devils were penalized four times for 30 times.
The Vikings fumbled twice, losing one, while the Red Devils fumbled just once.
The Vikings punted four times for a 13.5 yard average per punt, and the Red Devils punted three times with a 43.3 yard average for punt.
The Red Devils will hit the road and travel to take on the Greenfield Yellow Jackets Fri., Sept. 12. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
