AREA OBITUARIES – Leroy Sawyer

Leroy Sawyer, 87, of South Fulton, Tenn., passed away on Wed., July 8, 2026, at Magnolia Ridge in Union City, Tenn.
He was born on Feb. 17, 1939, in Fulton, Ky., to the late Fred Sawyer and Ruby Alexander Sawyer.
Leroy was a faithful member of Fulton Cumberland Presbyterian Church and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He enjoyed a distinguished 54-year career in banking, spending 34 years at the former Fulton Bank before serving an additional 20 years at The Citizens Bank. Throughout his career, he held the positions of Senior Vice President and Branch Manager, earning the respect and admiration of both his coworkers and the many customers he served.
A talented singer, Leroy sang tenor for many years with the Southern Gospel quartet, the Cumberland Aires, sharing his love of music and faith with countless audiences. In his free time, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting. Above all, Leroy treasured his family. He especially loved spending time with his grandsons and his great-granddaughter, who brought him tremendous joy.
Known for his warm smile and friendly personality, Leroy never met a stranger. His kindness, generosity, and genuine interest in others made him a beloved member of the community and a friend to many. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Sue, with whom he shared 67 wonderful years of marriage until her passing on March 28, 2026.
He is survived by his two daughters, Tracey Mires and Tina (Jeff) Morris, both of South Fulton, Tenn.; three grandsons, Dylan (Victoria) Mires, of Paris, Tenn., and Jonathan Morris and Luke Morris, both of South Fulton, Tenn.; one great-granddaughter, Liv Mires, of Paris, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Gail Sawyer, of Roswell, Ga.; and a brother-in-law, Steve (Reva) Helmbrecht, of Lexington, Ky.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue Sawyer; a son-in-law, Daniel Mires; and a brother, Charles Sawyer.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Sat., July 11, 2026 at the Fulton Cumberland Presbyterian Church in South Fulton, Tenn., with burial to follow in the Obion County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the Fulton Cumberland Presbyterian Church from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.
Pallbearers will be Dylan Mires, Jonathan Morris, Luke Morris, Jeff Morris, Kenny Melton and Matt Daniels.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Fulton Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1159 Parker Rd, South Fulton, TN 38257.
