Following action taken by the South Fulton Municipal Regional Planning Commission March 7, a South Fulton motel must remain closed as a result of findings reported by the Joel Crofton with the State Fire Marshal’s office and Ricky Watkins, Certified Building Inspector.

According to South Fulton Code Enforcement Officer Nicole Berner, the report stated the owners of Fulton Plaza must submit, within 30 days, the Plan of Corrective Action to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, following an inspection by representation from that office.

Berner told board members Kenny Mayo, Cody Caksackkar, David Lamb and Thomas Pettigrew that she informed the owners the city board will require a copy of the Corrective Action plan once it is submitted to the State Fire Marshal’s office.

Three property owners were present for the regular session of the board, including Brett and Emily Jenkins, the grandson and granddaughter-in-law of the late Wanda Tavis, and the daughter of the late Wanda Travis, regarding property at 713 East State Line; Pam Fletcher and Mike Wright, regarding property at 314 Broadway; and Thomas Gray, regarding property at 700 Key St.

Regarding the 713 East State Line property, the late Wanda Travis’ family members stated that “William and his family are wanting to fix up the house to move back into it with their children, and already have a contractor hired to do some o the work.” The contractor, they said stated that once he starts, the work should only take a week and the owners are planning to do the clean up on the outside of the house. They were given 60 days, until May 7, to bring the property up to code and Berner will examine the property to make sure the work is complete, to report back to the board.

Pam Fletcher stated she did not think anyone had her present address because she had never received any information about the property. Fletcher stated Mike Wright wants to buy the property and fix it up, to rent out. The board approved the tabling of the matter until the April 4 meeting to see if Fletcher is able to remedy her “tax situation”.

Regarding the 700 Key St. property, Thomas Gray explained to the board he is currently staying in the house on the property and is trying to get help to move across the line into an apartment.

Berner reported she has spoken with Emma Brown Cross about the matter and Cross was asked to write a letter stating her intentions with the house but no response has been received from Cross. The board agreed to allow Gray time to relocate.

In her Code Enforcement Officer’s Report, Berner stated Jeff Campbell with LK Property Investors had contacted her about the 122 Central Avenue property, stating he had a contract in progress. The matter was tabled until the next meeting.

Ms. Patton was given an extension regarding property at 505 Tennessee Street, until March 8, however Caksackkar made a motion to table the matter due to weather conditions, until the April 4 meeting, seconded by Pettigrew and all approved the motion.

Board members were informed by Berner she plans to provide letters to the City Judge to execute, so that inoperable vehicles within the city may be picked up.

Board member Billy Williams was absent from the meeting.
