AREA OBITUARIES — Kenneth Neal Pickering

Kenneth Neal Pickering, 87, of South Fulton, Tenn., passed away peacefully at his residence on Fri., July 31, 2026.
Born on July 26, 1939, in Union City, Tenn., Kenneth was the son of the late Edison Bernnard Pickering and Hattie Neal Lankford Pickering.
Kenneth was a faithful member of The People Place Assembly of God and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. Throughout his working years, he was employed by the former Bennett Electric, Huddleston's Hardware, and Walmart, where he dedicated 18 years of service. He also became well known throughout the community for baking and selling homemade bread, earning the affectionate nickname, "The Bread Man."
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Kenneth cherished the time he spent with his family. He especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and found great joy in gardening and sharing his homemade bread with others.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ernestine Hill Pickering, whom he married on June 19, 1962; one daughter, Sheila Jean (Jerry) Moore, of South Fulton, Tenn.; two grandchildren, April Gail (Aaron) Fulcher, of South Fulton, Tenn., and Nina Farrah (Jeremy) Poole, of Smithville, Tenn.; five great-grandchildren, Owain Ray Ballance, of South Fulton, Tenn., Jennessa Dorothy Ballance, of Union City, Tenn., Kenneth Brian Ballance, of South Fulton, Tenn., Derrick Alan Poole, of Smithville, Tenn., and Eric Landon Poole, of Madison, Tenn.; four brothers, Glen Pickering, of Union City, Tenn., Gary Pickering, of South Fulton, Tenn., Orville Pickering, of South Fulton, Tenn., and Michael Pickering, of Union City, Tenn.; and one sister, Linda Boyd, of Sedalia, Ky.
In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by two brothers, Bennie Pickering and Donald Pickering.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Mon., Aug. 3, 2026 at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel and burial followed in the Obion County Memorial Gardens. Visitation was held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. Mon., Aug. 3 until the hour of service.
Hornbeak Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
