Obion County voters weigh in on state, federal primaries

Obion County voters joined Tennesseans across the state Thurs., Aug. 6, in casting ballots in the State and Federal Primary and State and County General Election.
All 12 Obion County precincts reported, with results including early voting, absentee ballots and Election Day precinct votes. The county was listed with final unofficial results.
Statewide, Marsha Blackburn emerged as the leading candidate in the Republican gubernatorial primary, receiving 311,328 votes, or 43.55 percent, with all 95 counties reporting. John Rose finished second with 235,511 votes, or 32.95 percent, while Monty Fritts received 167,971 votes, or 23.50 percent.
In the Democratic gubernatorial primary statewide, Jerri Green led with 244,194 votes, or 69.05 percent. Carnita Atwater received 63,254 votes, or 17.89 percent, followed by Kevin Lee McCants with 18,961 votes, Tim Cyr with 14,795 and Adam “Ditch” Kurtz with 12,456.
In Obion County, Blackburn also led the Republican gubernatorial primary, receiving 1,573 votes, or 50.27 percent. Rose received 974 votes, or 31.13 percent, while Fritts received 582 votes, or 18.60 percent.
Green posted an even stronger margin in Obion County in the Democratic gubernatorial primary, receiving 344 votes, or 66.67 percent. Atwater received 85 votes, followed by McCants with 39, Kurtz with 25 and Cyr with 23.
U.S. Sen. Bill Hagerty was unopposed in the Republican Senate primary in Obion County and received 2,766 votes.
In the Democratic Senate primary, Marquita Bradshaw led the county with 195 votes, or 39.16 percent. Maria Brewer received 95 votes, Kevin Lee McCants received 94, Civil Miller-Watkins received 68 and Diana Onyejiaka received 46.
In the Republican primary for U.S. House District 5, Andy Ogles received 1,628 votes, or 54.67 percent, to defeat Charlie Hatcher, who received 1,350 votes, or 45.33 percent in Obion County.
Chaz Molder led the Democratic primary for U.S. House District 5 with 163 votes, or 32.54 percent. Yolanda Cooper-Sutton received 120 votes, Rachel Hurley 97, DeVante R. Hill 72 and Carrie Ann Iacomini 49.
In the Tennessee House District 77 Republican primary, Rusty Grills was unopposed and received 1,926 votes. No Democratic candidate qualified for the race.
Chris Hurt was unopposed in the Republican primary for Tennessee House District 82 and received 780 votes. No Democratic candidate qualified in that race.
Ryan Anthony Ellegood was unopposed for Republican State Executive Committeeman in District 24 and received 2,517 votes. Tess Robbins was unopposed for Republican State Executive Committeewoman and received 2,235 votes.
Tammy Floyd-Wade was unopposed for Democratic State Executive Committeewoman in District 24 and received 365 votes.
Obion County voters also considered retention questions involving Tennessee appellate judges. The unofficial results showed voters favoring retention of the judges listed on the ballot.
