Lady Pilots sweep Lady Bulldogs

The Fulton County High School Lady Pilots turned a strong offensive performance and relentless defense into a convincing 3-0 sweep of the Fulton High School Lady Bulldogs, winning 25-22, 25-11, 25-10 at home Tues., Sept. 1.
Fulton County controlled the match after a competitive opening set, steadily pulling away from Fulton City to finish the night with a dominant third-set performance.
The biggest difference came at the net. Brooklyn Owens led Fulton County with 15 kills on 20 attacks, committing just three errors for an impressive .600 hitting percentage. Owens also anchored the defense with a match-high 18 digs.
Fulton County finished with 22 kills and a team hitting percentage of .342, compared with just four kills for Fulton City. Fulton City struggled offensively, finishing with six hitting errors and a team percentage of -.167.
The Lady Pilots' offense was also well distributed through its setters. Taylor Hendrix recorded seven assists, while Sydnee Whitten added six assists.
Serving pressure helped Fulton County maintain control throughout the match. Hendrix led the team with eight service aces, while Aubrei Wilson added four. The Lady Pilots finished with 21 aces overall.
Fulton City received four kills from Piper Cavness, while Rio Lang contributed two kills and posted the team's best individual hitting percentage at .333. Cavness also recorded three service aces.
Defensively, Fulton County was simply too difficult to overcome. In addition to Owens' 18 digs, Sydnee Whitten recorded 10 digs, and Aubrei Wilson added nine digs and three blocks.
The victory moves Fulton County to 3-5 on the season, while Fulton City falls to 1-2.
The Lady Pilots will travel to Clinton to take on the Hickman County High School Lady Falcons on Thurs., Sept. 3 at 6:30 p.m., while the Lady Bulldogs will hit the road to take on Livingston Central High School at 6 p.m.
