Burn ban issued for Fulton County

The City of Hickman and Fulton County Judge/Executive Jim Martin have issued a burn ban effective immediately for the city of Hickman and all of Fulton County because of dry conditions and an increased risk of fire.
The ban prohibits open burning throughout the city and county until further notice. Officials say the measure is intended to protect residents, property and the community from the threat of wildfires.
Prohibited activities include open burning of leaves, brush and yard waste; burning household trash or debris; bonfires and recreational fires; and any other form of open burning.
City officials are urging residents to do their part to help prevent wildfires while the burn ban remains in effect.
Violations may result in fines or other penalties permitted under city ordinances and state law.

The burn ban will remain in place until significant rainfall has eliminated the need for the ban.
