New school visitor protocol at FIS through Senate Bill 1

July 22, 2019

With the Kentucky State Senate’s passage of Senate Bill 1, New Visitor Protocol will be implemented at Fulton Independent Schools, on both the Carr Elementary and Fulton Middle/High School campuses for the 2019-2020 school year.

According to Kent Green, FIS Director of Pupil Personnel, Buildings and Grounds, Director of Transportation and Safe Schools Coordinator, the Bill includes requirements any visitor to either school campus must report to the main office of the building.

Valid identification must be provided by the visitor, and the purpose for the visit must be stated upon arrival.

Visitors must then be issued, and wear an official visitor’s badge, plainly visible on their outer garment.

Green noted that in addition to the new visitor information included in the Bill, other topics included are the creation of a state school safety marshal, school risk assessment tools, additional access control protocols inside the schools, mandated active shooter training for employees and increased emphasis in mental health and trauma based approaches.
