Hickman Pecan Fest includes new event, Dessert Bake-off

A new event at this year’s 26th Annual Hickman Pecan Festival will be a Dessert Bake-off on Sept. 6.

Bake-Off Rules are, entries are to be dropped off at the Jeff Green Memorial Park on Bernal Avenue, between 5 and 6 p.m. with a $5 entry fee; all items must be homemade. No store bought items will be accepted. Items should be brought in a disposable plate and plastic wrap.

Items requiring refrigeration will not be accepted.

Winners will be awarded for two age divisions – Junior for ages 9 – 18 years, and senior for ages 19 and older. Those who enter must live in Fulton County and all items must contain pecans.

Items must be submitted in the following serving sizes, 1/4 of a cake; 1/4 of a pie; four (4) individual pieces of cookie/brownie; and 1/2 loaf of bread.

Judging standards will be observed, with items to be judged on general appearance, texture, and flavor.

First, Second, and Third place ribbons will be awarded in each division.

A Grand Champion ribbon will be awarded in both divisions with a $50 prize awarded to each winner.

Winners will be announced Sept. 7, at noon, during festivities at Jeff Green Memorial Park.
