Pilots post win at Greenfield

by Charles Choate

The Fulton County Pilots knew Friday night’s game at Greenfield would be a battle.

The Jackets came into the game at 5-0, and ranked 5th in Tennessee in Class-A football, while the Pilots carried a 4-1 record across the state line.

Following a 14-14 tie at halftime, it was a fourth quarter touchdown by Fulton County, and late goal line stand, that resulted in a 20-14 Pilots win.

“We knew it was going to be tough, but we were ready to do what it took to win,” said coach James Bridges following the game. “These guys are just together. The are playing together, working together to get it done. This was a big game for us. We knew we could win, and we did it.”

The Pilots put the first points on the scoreboard in the first quarter, when Caleb Kimble crossed paydirt on a seven-yard run at the 4:13 mark.

Kimble’s run was complimented by Jordan Pirtle’s extra-point kick for a 7-0 lead.

Greenfield countered the score and took the lead at 2:04 in the period, when Micheal Isbell scored on a one-yard run, and two point conversion, for an 8-7 Jackets lead.

In the second quarter, Kimble put the Pilots back in front, when he scored on a nine-yard run.

The touchdown at the 11:07 mark, again complimented by a Pirtle kick, put Fulton County on top 14-8.

Celebrating their Homecoming, the Jackets were able to tie the game, with Keylon Thomas crossing the goaline on a 30-yard run.

The score at the 1:35 mark before halftime put the scoreclock at 14-14 at the break.

The game winning score came with 5:45 to play, when the Pilots Jerome Warren scored on a one-yard run.

This 20-14 lead was kept in tact, after the Pilots held Greenfield on a first-and-goal at the nine-yard line with less than two minutes to play.

“What can I say about our defense,” said coach Bridges. “That was just a huge stop. That was all we had to do. Keep them from scoring and we could all but run the clock out. The guys just stepped up. They were not going to get beat tonight.”

In the game, Caleb Kimble had 19 rushes for 85-yards and two touchdowns, with Jerome Warren completing 7-of-10 passes for 73-yards, and one rushing touchdown.

Broc Bridges provided an offensive spark by catching three passes for 68-yards.

On the defensive side, Diavian Bradley had six tackles and a fumble recovery, with Dylan Hammond recording five tackles and two fumble recoveries.

The 5-1 Pilots will now begin First District play this week, when they travel to play Russellville.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
