At his press conference today, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear announced he had communicated with the state's Superintendents regarding an extension of time away from the classroom through May 1.

In addition, Gov. Beshear announced the closure of all Kentucky campgrounds and lodges; that visitors from out of state, coming into Kentucky to visit, must self-quarantine for 14 days; donations are needed for gloves for medical professionals; and plans are underway to begin a 2000 bed field hospital at Louisville's fairgrounds.

In his public address, he noted he would authorize state, county and city governments to hire retirees, if needed, and the screening process is underway for those who are incarcerated to be considered for a commuted sentence, with no consideration given to those incarcerated for violence- or sex-related crimes.

The Governor used a portion of his time explaining the process by which labs and health departments report new cases of Covid-19, adding currently, 770 cases have tested positive, up 100 from April 1, with 11 deaths reported, and all but one of those deaths involving cases with individuals with underlying health conditions.
