Dorena-Hickman Ferry now resuming regular Summer service

April 15, 2020

Having been closed since March 19, the Dorena Hickman Ferry resumed service on the regular Summer Schedule Sunday morning.

The ferry connects KY 1354 at Hickman with Missouri Route A and Route 77 near Dorena, Mo.

In addition to providing transportation between Kentucky and Missouri for daily commuters and farmers, the ferry serves as a tourist attraction for the region and provides a convenient route between southeast Missouri and fishing and recreational areas around nearby Reelfoot Lake in northwest Tennessee.

Missouri and Kentucky have the geographic distinction of being the only border states not directly connected by road or bridge, with the ferry the only direct route between the two states.

The ferry operates at Mississippi River navigation mile point 922.0.
