JUNE 7, 1990

FULTON LEADER

• Renovation began on the former location of Varden Ford on Middle Road, in Fulton, to convert the building to a Save-A-Lot grocery store.

• Obion County Schools calendar for 1990-1991 included registration day for Aug. 15, first full day of classes Aug. 20, Christmas Break Dec. 20-Jan. 1 and last day of classes, May 24.

• South Fulton High School students Eric Cassetty and Laurie Tucker were chosen as SFHS delegates to Boys’ and Girls’ State, respectively. Michelle Lamb and John Connell were chosen as Alternates.

• The first Hickman River City Festival was scheduled for July 7-8 and was to include arts and crafts, concessions, ferry boat rides, and “spectacular” fireworks. The Hickman Chamber of Commerce and the City of Hickman/Fulton County Rescue Squad assisted in coordinating the event.

• Jack and Teresa Haddad of South Fulton announced plans to celebrate their upcoming 25th wedding anniversary with a reception at St. Edward Catholic Church.

• Lucinda (Cindy) Hale McDade, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell Fowler McDade, Jr. of Fulton, was wed to Robert Patrick Schiavone II of Louisville, May 19, with the wedding photo and article published in the June 7 edition of The Fulton Leader.

• Nicole Ott of South Fulton was awarded a College Cheerleader Training Program scholarship at the University of Tennessee, Martin.

• Fulton High School class officers for the 1990-1991 school year included seniors, Michael Matheny, Mary Margaret McAdoo, Krystal Isbell, John Roach and Michelle Rumbaugh and Ashley Duncan; Juniors, Christie Fahl, Ginger King, Melissa Newton, Jana Warren, Stacie Burnette and Jordan Barnes; Sophomores, Michael Pruett, Bonnie Fahl, Angela Bone, Kim Hamilton.

• Pack 40, Boy Scouts, was one of the first groups to visit the National Scouting Museum in Murray that year. In attendance were Kevin Perry, Cubmaster, Teresa Tibbs, Roger Hastings, Debbie Hastings, Karl Ivey, Earl Mulcahy, Judy Rambo, Lori Dacus, Jim Melton and Greg James, Cub Scouts, Jeremy Tibbs, Dustin Hastings, Josh James, William Ivey, Craig Dame, Charles Mulcahy, Alex Bloomfield, E.J. Wood, Josh Elliott, Wesley Joyner, John Paul Adams, Daniel Dallas, Joey Melton, Bryan Rambo, Rusty Stokes, Mark Bauer, Joe Dacus, Tyrell Bloomfield, Jason Elliott, Mark Lynch and Greg Barclay.

• South Fulton High School senior Michael Johnson was selected to the 1990 Amro Music Mid-South Honor Band.

• University of Kentucky’s Rick Pitino was a guest at the University of Tennessee at Martin Hoop Camp.

• Fulton Dental defeated Fulton Leader, 7-3, in the American League action at Fulton City Park, for the 1990 Twin Cities Youth League season. For Fulton Leader, Ben Mitchell, Clay Beadles and Dusty Phipps scored singles, with Fulton Dental seeing singles from Brandon Neal, Joe Winstead, Nick Stokes, Tripp Caldwell, Matthew Wright, Nick Rice and Eric Dickerson.

• Bill Gray & Son advertised an auction for real estate on North College Street in Fulton.

FULTON LEADER

• Fulton Commissioners gave the go-ahead for an ordinance to be drafted to annex 12 acres on Middle Road adjacent to the Purchase Parkway Service Road. Harold Pewitt, owner of the property made the request for the annexation.

• Parkway Regional Hospital in Fulton advertised Cataract Surgery in house.

• Anna Beth Cox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Cox celebrated her first birthday.

• Fulton Bank advertised 1990 Mint Condition coins for Fathers Day gifts.

• Emily Ann Pinion, daughter of James and Lori Pinion was awarded second maid in a beauty review sponsored by the Obion County 4-H Honor Club.

• Joe C. Pillow, field representative for the Woodmen of the World and a resident of Fulton qualified for membership in the President’s Club.
