BANANA FESTIVAL CANCELLED FOR 2020

July 10, 2020

(EDITOR'S NOTE: THE FOLLOWING PRESS RELEASE WAS RECEIVED BY THE CURRENT THIS MORNING FROM THEA VOWELL, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE FULTON TOURISM COMMISSION, SPONSOR OF THE BANANA FESTIVAL.)

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we, here today, representatives of the Fulton Tourism Commission and the Banana Festival Committee announce that we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Banana Festival and events scheduled for September 12 – 19th, 2020.

This is not a decision we have taken lightly. The Banana Festival Committee has had numerous meetings and discussions regarding the best interest of everyone involved. However, first and foremost, our highest priority has to remain the health, welfare, and safety of our community. In addition, these events cannot happen without commitment and sacrifice from our faithful community volunteers and this is simply too much to ask of them under these public health pandemic circumstances.

We know that this will come as an enormous disappointment, not only to our sponsors, event participants and vendors but to our community as the Banana Festival is a great event that people look forward to all year.

We want to thank our community for your patience and understanding as we conducted our research and diligence in coming to the difficult decision. We will continue to collaborate and work together to find new events once things begin to open up, we hope, later in the Fall.

Thank you for your continued support. We’ll be back in 2021 stronger and better than ever.

Save the date, September 10th – 18th, 2021!

Thea Vowell, Director

Fulton Tourism Commission and The Banana Festival Committee
