Jr. Red Devils defeat Gleason
The South Fulton Jr. Red Devils got their middle school football season off to a good start, winning their home opener, 22-0, over Gleason.
South Fulton quarterback Blake Rodehaver scored the teams first points, when he broke away on a 46-yard touchdown run at the 5:02 mark of the first quarter.
Rodehaver’s touchdown was complimented by a Chandler Harmon two-point conversion run and an 8-0 lead.
Still in the first quarter, it was Rodehaver again crossing the goal line, this time on a 4-yard run.
The Red Devils play caller also converted the two-point conversion for a 16-0 advantage.
South Fulton used a big play late in the second quarter to put their final points on the scoreboard.
Brady McFarland hauled in a Rodehaver pass for a 66-yard gain, that later resulted in Conner Allen scoring from 4-yards out.
The second half of the game was played with a running clock, following an injury that delayed the game by over 30 minutes.
Gleason 8th grade quarterback Kylean Borneman suffered an injury in the opening moments of the third quarter, while playing on the defensive side of the ball.
Borneman’s injury resulted in his transfer from the field by ambulance personnel from Baptist Memorial Hospital of Union City.
The (1-0) Jr. Red Devils will now play their next game at home against Lake Road on August 23rd, following the postponement of their game against Fulton City.
