Public use of private dumpsters prohibited in City

At the request of Fulton City Commissioner Elaine Forrester, Fulton City Manager Mike Gunn and Mayor David Prater have issued a plea to area residents who might be using dumpsters inside the city limits of Fulton.

“There are no public dumpsters in the city of Fulton,” said Mayor Prater.

Commissioner Forrester said she had witnessed on more than one occasion, vehicles drive up to dumpsters in Fulton, and deposit garbage. Those dumpsters, she noted, are paid for, either by the city of Fulton or by a private business, and are not meant to be available to the public.

A request was made by the commission as to whether the Police Department could patrol the areas of the dumpsters, and help regulate the usage.

FPD Captain Allen Poole responded officers could patrol the areas of dumpsters, however he offered for the commission’s consideration an alternative method by which area citizens could get rid of their garbage would be to “throw it in ditches” alluding to the use of the dumpsters possibly a better choice.

Mayor Prater asked it be brought to the public’s attention that any dumpster within the city of Fulton is paid by either the city or a private business and he asked for cooperation from the public to not use dumpsters in Fulton, which are paid by other parties.
