New industry may be coming to Hickman.

Hickman’s Planning & Zoning (P&Z) Commission heard the news during a special called meeting held Aug. 24 at Hickman City Hall, with Board members Shannon Waltmon, Debbie Ward, Carla McClure, and Cayce Jackson attending.

Max McDade addressed the Board, via Zoom, about his plan to bring Kentucky Meatwerks, Inc. to Hickman, to start the process for obtaining conditional use approval, for a cattle processing facility, processing 150 animals per day.

He said Kentucky Meatwerks has contracted to acquire a 75,000 square feet warehouse and office facility on 17.9 acres adjoining nearby neighbors Cargill, Bunge and Hickman-Fulton County Riverport on the Mississippi River.

The plan is to utilize 45,000 square feet of warehouse space, along with approximately 11 acres of the 17.9 acres of land on the warehouse property. Required engineering and architectural work will take approximately five to six months. Once a final building permit is issued the Company anticipates completing the build within another six to seven months.

The Investment in the Hickman Warehouse and Processing Facility will be approximately $5 million pus working capital.

Mark Welch, President of the Fulton-Hickman Counties Economic Development Partnership provided assistance to bring the proposed Kentucky Meatwerks Project to fruition.

The P&Z Board voted to allow the conditional use permit, with amendments. It will now go before the Hickman City Commission for their consideration in anticipation of their approval to proceed in September.
