AREA OBITUARIES -- WILLIAM D. YATES, SR. AREA OBITUARIES -- WILLIAM D. YATES, SR.

William D. Yates, Sr., a resident of Pilot Oak, died Dec. 5 at his residence. He was 93.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Bethlehem Cemetery. No visitation was held. Hornbeak Funeral Chapel, of Fulton, was in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his children; William D. Yates, Jr. (Beverly), of Water Valley, and Wanda Lanell Galloway (Ronnie), of Sedalia; a grandson, William (Everett) Yates; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gus Everett and Novella Lee Warren Yates; his wife, Wanda Sue Tucker Yates; four brothers, Virgil Yates, Jake Yates, J.T. Yates and J.L. Yates; and two sisters; Dorothy Mathis and Jeraldine Yates.

Born March 15, 1927 in Graves County, he was a member of the Bethlehem Methodist Church, where he served as Treasurer for 53 years and a Sunday School Superintendent for 17 years.

He was also a member of the Water Valley Masonic Lodge 756 for 64 years.

He had worked for the former A&P as a manager for 33 years, then working for the former Pic Pac as a butcher for 10 years.

He also was a bus driver for the Graves County School System for 26 years.

He lived all of his life in this area.
