Photography entries sought for Banana Fest contest

A picture is worth a thousand words, and it could be worth up to $100 for the People’s Choice winner, or $75 for the Best of Show award at this year’s Banana Festival Photography contest.

The entry fee is $5 for adults per entry and $5 for youth per entry.

Categories include Clickety Clack, Trains and Tracks; People; Animals; Sports; Flowers; Bananas; Nature/Landscapes; Elements of Design, patterns and form/lines/texture/perspectives; and Digital Dark Room (Photoshop composites and creations/HDR.

Entries must be submitted as an 8 x 10 display, with mounting to be done by the event committee. All entries must have been photographed within a 12 month period, color or black and white, no printing of watermarks or titles allowed on front or back of photo.

Participants may enter up to two photographs in each category. All entries must include the original digital image on CD/DVD indicating date photo was taken.

Entries will be accepted Sat., Sept. 8, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sun., Sept. 9, 1-5 p.m. at the Pontotoc Community Center building, in Pontotoc Park, Fulton, at 112 East State Line.

The public may view entries Mon., Sept. 10, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tues.-Fri., Sept. 11-14, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sat., Sept. 15, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Judging will begin Sept. 10 at 11 a.m., and ribbons will be indicated on the winning photo. All winners will be announced at Faith and Family Night Sept. Sept. 12, on the Unity Park stage., at approximately 6 p.m.

The People’s Choice award will be announced Sept. 15 at 6:30 p.m., following the Grand Parade.

First, second and third place ribbons in Adult and Youth divisions will be awarded in each category, Best of Show, selected by judges will win $75 and People’s Choice, selected through the most number of votes through facebook posting, will win $100.

One photo will be chosen by the Banana Festival committee, to be professionally framed and displayed at Fulton City Hall for one year.
