South Fulton’s Easter Egg Hunt March 27
This year’s Community Easter Egg Hunt will return following a year’s absence, on the front lawn of the city of South Fulton’s Municipal Complex, after a convening of the South Fulton Parks and Recreation Board March 2.
Board Chair Felicia Lightner and board members Sharye Hendrix, Anita Oliver, Eddie Cassetty, Cindy Pratt, Cody Caksackkar, City Manager Johnny Bacon and Mayor David Lamb were present. Board members Harry Hutcherson and Myra Bass were absent.
In the absence of Parks Director David McDaniel, currently on medical-related leave, the board scheduled the Community Easter Egg Hunt to be held March 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.. In case of rain, the rain date and time was set for March 28 from 2-4 p.m. at the same location. The first hunt for ages birth to three will begin at 12 noon, followed by a hunt for ages four to six, and ending with a hunt for ages seven to 10.
The board agreed to request Jacksonville Lodge’s assistance once again to cook hotdogs, and provide them, along with drinks and chips to those in attendance for the egg hunt.
It was also determined to move forward with ordering pre-stuffed eggs for the event.
Mayor Lamb agreed to reach out to South Fulton High School seniors in need of community service hours, regarding their help in setting up and overseeing the hunt.
City Manager Johnny Bacon told the board he would locate a banner previously created for display, to be placed at Unity Park, designating the date for the event, and he would also contact the Shriners regarding the furnishing of their train for rides, confirm the display of the city’s firetruck and Air Evac helicopter. Bacon said he would check with Twin Cities Chamber of Commerce Director Thea Vowell, regarding the opening of the Railroad Museum during the hunt, for visitors.
Lightner suggested fliers be placed throughout the community publicizing the hunt, and that Vowell had offered to create the fliers and have them printed. She also recommended a story and advertisement be published in The Current.
Caksackkar suggested inviting City Commissioners to attend.
Prior to adjournment, Chair Felicia Lightner requested the scheduling of a Special Called meeting of the Parks and Recreation Board for March 16 at 5 p.m., regarding finalization of plans for the Community Easter Egg Hunt, prior to bringing the board’s recommendation before the full City Commission at their monthly session March 18.
Funding for the Egg Hunt is included in the annual budget under Parks and Recreation.
