With the approval of the City Commissions of Fulton and South Fulton, Aug. 21, National Senior Citizens Day will be recognized and proclaimed, ceremoniously with the execution of the proclamation at 10 a.m. Saturday, beneath the “Welcome To The Twin Cities” sign, on East State Line, connecting Fulton’s Pontotoc Park and South Fulton’s Unity Park.

A special invitation is extended to all area senior citizens, ages 55 and older, to be a part of the signing, as well as the guests of the Smiles On Seniors, SOS 501(c)(3) organization and the South Fulton Parks and Recreation Board, at the Harvey Vick Room of the South Fulton Municipal Complex, any time from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for refreshments, fellowship and door prizes.

In an excerpt of the official Proclamation, it states “Throughout our history, older Americans have achieved much for our families, our communities and our country. Older Americans are cherished and invaluable members of our society, deserving our utmost respect, gratitude and admiration. Older Americans have built our economy, defended our freedom and shaped our Nation’s character. They have raised families, and dedicated themselves to improving the quality of life for future generations...older Americans spend their time volunteering for those in need, mentoring young people or learning new skills...for all they as older Americans have achieved throughout life and for all they continue to accomplish, we owe older citizens our thanks and a heartfelt salute.”
