Hickman Health Dept. to close

September 20, 2021

According to an email from Kent Koster, LHD, Purchase District Health Department, the Fulton County Health Department in Hickman will be closing the office and will remain closed for repairs until further notice, because of mold being found in the building.

All appointments scheduled for the Hickman Health Department have been moved to the Health Department in Fulton and future appointments will be scheduled in Fulton along with the calls being forwarded to Fulton. Signs were placed on the doors to notify residents coming to the Hickman office.

George Frazier, Fulton County Health Department Board member, informed the staff of a telecom from Summit Environmental Services, Inc., regarding mold sampling analysis at the Hickman Health Department.

The final report including bids for remediation will be issued later this month, however, upon their advice the building shall be vacated until further notice. Mold levels throughout the building are in excess of OSHA standards for occupancy.

Furnishings and supplies are to be left in place until cleaned or disposed.

The Hope Center and the ARK (Alternative Resources for Kentuckians) Food Bank, who also use the building, were notified of the closure.

“This closure is nothing more than good sense at this time. Actual cost of remediation will be known when bids are received but best guess is in the range of $50,000 for board authorization. I have placed tree removal and roof repairs on hold until after the remediation,” Frazier said.
