KPREP improvement, strategies considered by FIS faculty
(Editor’s Note: The following was submitted by Mancell Elam, Fulton Independent Schools Principal)
There are anxious times around the state. Test scores have been published and districts all across the state are trying to find ways to improve on the 2017-18 KPREP results. As administrators, we are trying to consider instructional time and how it impacts our teachers planning time, instructional strategies, motivational strategies and student engagement. Not only are we trying to help our staff improve on their craft, we also have to think about how it will impact our students learning, depth of knowledge and authentic learning opportunities they will have.
Believe it or not, it’s a lot to wrap your head around. I wish I could tell everyone that it will get easier, but the truth of the matter is, it will only get harder. This is a good thing, not a bad one. I constantly remind our students that nothing in life is easy, there are no handouts and everything they achieve in life will have to come from hard work. I believe if they learn this while they are young, it will drive them into their destiny. It’s going to take a total team effort to accomplish the things that we have set out to achieve. This includes our parents, community members, clergy/churches, businesses, students and staff. We need all hands on deck and everybody’s role is vital to our district success. We are not going to make any excuses; we are putting our heads down and pressing forward. Below, you will find some activities that will be coming up in Oct..
This week is Homecoming week at FHS. Each day of the week will have a theme that our students can participate.
Oct. 4: Lady Bulldogs will play in the first district volleyball tournament in Hickman County.
Oct. 5: Bulldogs will host West Carroll, Tenn. for homecoming night. Come out and support our bulldogs. We will be crowning a queen from our school homecoming court.
Fall Break will be the week of Oct. 8 - 12. No school for students and staff.
Oct. 14: Bulldog football team will be traveling to Russellville for a 2 p.m. game.
Oct. 16: ACT Prep from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. at FHS.
Oct. 18: National Earthquake Day.
Oct. 19: Senior Night for our football team and cheerleaders. The Bulldogs will host Fulton County. There will be a Tailgate Party at War Memorial Stadium for all employees and their family members at 6 p.m.
Oct. 20: PTO will have our annual Fall Festival from 4 - 7 p.m. at Fulton High School. Please bring your family, children and neighbors to an awesome event.
Oct. 24: Fields of Faith sponsored by FCA at Hickman County High School from 6 - 8 p.m. This is an event that all of our students and parents across the region will benefit from.
Message to students: keep believing, keep dreaming and keep achieving. When you put your minds to any task in life, nothing will be impossible. Every day, work on being the best you that you can be. Write your dreams and goals on a sticky note, your mirror or school notebook. Look at it daily and do not let any individual, circumstance or situation stop you from accomplishing everything you have set your mind to achieve. #BULLDOGPRIDE
