WORKFORCE BOARD SETS UP TEMPORARY RESOURCE CENTER AT GRAVES CO. HIGH SCHOOL FOR UNEMPLOYMENT

The West Kentucky Workforce Board will continue its partnership with Graves County Schools in order to operate a temporary resource center at Graves County High School located at 1220 Eagle Way in Mayfield.

The center will be open from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Dec. 28 and Dec. 29.

So far, nearly 400 citizens who lost their business or employment from the Dec. 10 tornado in Graves County and parts of Fulton County have utilitzed the temporary site. They have filed for unemployment insurance, replaced personal identification documents, or handled other online needs.

According to the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development, individuals who became unemployed or those who are self-employed and had work interrupted as a direct result of the severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding, and tornadoes, are eligible to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance benefits through the Kentucky Office of Unemploym​ent Insurance.

Farmers and other self-employed individuals who are traditionally ineligible for unemployment insurance (UI) benefits may qualify for DUA. The deadline to apply for this assistance is Jan. 18, 2022.

The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded a National Dislocated Worker Grant funding to support disaster-relief temporary employment to opportunities to assist with clean-up and recovery activities in eight Kentucky counties: Caldwell, Fulton, Graves, Hopkins, Marshall, Muhlenberg, Taylor and Warren. Individuals who lost their jobs because of the tornados may begin to apply for these positions at the Graves County High School site.
