KYTC District 1 Crews Continue Ice-Fighting Efforts Overnight

Public asked to continue avoiding travel due to icy conditions

PADUCAH, Ky. (Feb. 3, 2022) – Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Crews in District1 continued their ice-fighting efforts overnight. Activities are focused on salting "A" Snow Priority Routes (Interstates, parkways, and 4-lane U.S. Highways) in an effort to maintain some travel through the region.

Crews report few travel issues along major routes, mainly due to extremely low travel volume.

As areas of freezing rain, sleet, and snow move through the region, the National Weather Service (NWS) Paducah suggests that driving conditions could deteriorate fairly quickly - some downed trees and power outages are possible.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 1 Snow and Ice Team continues to ask the public to avoid travel as accumulating ice, sleet, and snow is creating hazardous driving conditions.

Major Winter Storm Impacts Expected Today and Tonight

Ice Storm and Winter Storm Warnings in effect through Tonight with the greatest impacts from ice and snow accumulations expected today.

Significant snow, sleet, and freezing rain accumulations will lead to dangerous travel conditions and possible power outages in the Ice Storm Warning area.
Travel is not recommended today or tonight.

Make sure you’re weather-ready and your emergency kits are up to date and stocked in your automobile and at home.

Review safe use of alternative heat sources - carbon monoxide is deadly!
