DISTRICT 1 KENTUCKY TRANSPORTATION CABINET REQUESTS MOTORIST AVOID TRAVEL IF POSSIBLE
Motorists Advised to Be Alert for Downed Trees Overnight and Early Friday
PADUCAH, Ky. (Feb. 3, 2022) – While the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) Snow and Ice Team continues to ask area residents to avoid travel due to icy conditions, motorists who do get out are advised to be alert for downed trees and power lines overnight and early Friday morning.
Highway crews have removed and trimmed back down trees, where possible. Some sections of roadways may remain blocked overnight where numerous trees or large trees need to be removed. There are some sections of KY 93 in southern Lyon County where fallen trees are near the edge of the roadway. A section of KY 274 is blocked by downed trees. Some neighboring counties have similar issues.
Several hours of work and heavy equipment will be required to remove some of the larger trees that are reported down.
As winter precipitation continues overnight, there is also the opportunity for additional trees to fall that may not get reported due to low traffic volume.
Motorists are advised to use extreme caution if they venture out tonight or early Friday. Crews will be out on Friday to remove trees that have been reported on or near the roadway.
If you encounter a tree blocking the roadway, please take note of the specific location using a landmark such as a house address, mile point, or nearby crossroad and report it to your local 911 call center.
