Bulldogs, Lady Bulldogs end season vs. Carlisle

The 1st District Tournament hosts, Fulton’s Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs, saw their 2021-22 basketball season come to any end Saturday afternoon in their home gym, both teams suffering a first round defeat at the hands of the Carlisle County Comets and Lady Comets.

The Lady Bulldogs’ 2 p.m. contest agains the visiting Lady Comets quickly blazed a trail in favor of Carlisle County, with FHS unable to lessen the gap throughout the four quarters of play, for a 65-30 loss to CCHS.

Tajashia Macklin scored 43 points in the second quarter and added on 3 more in the third and fourth stanzas, for her 9 points in the game.

Team mate Mia Martin had two 2-point baskets in the second round, and came back after half time to score 2 more in the third and 2 more in the fourth and final quarter of play.

Takyra Taylor found net once in the first, once in the second and once in the third quarter for her 6 points, and Jasmine McCloyn connected on a three point basket in the third quarter.

In boys’ action, according to FHS Head Coach John Dillard, his Bulldogs “played hard but just came up short” in the 50-42 loss to the Comets.

Leads were switched between the two teams a number of times throughout the game with the Bulldogs ahead by up to 5 points, and likewise the Comets pulling back up to overtake the lead.

Senior Camarae Cobb rose to the top of his game, and lead the Bulldogs with 22 points, hitting 10 of 16 free throws and six two-point buckets.

Dylan Jackson was successful on 8 of 11 visits to the line, plus connected on a three and two point goal.

Eighth grader Ethan Pettigrew came through with 5 points for the Bulldogs, by way of a two point basket and another connection, that bucket from three-point range.

Jacob Madding dropped in 2 points at the line.

The Bulldogs scored 11 points and 13 points in the first and second quarters of play, followed by 10 and 8 after halftime, in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.

“I am proud of their effort,” Coach Dillard said.

On Friday night, Feb. 18, the last home game of the regular season for the Bulldogs, and Senior Night recognition, Fulton High School hosted Community Christian Academy, with the visitors coming away with the win, 79-49.
