Fulton native and Fulton High School graduate Maegan Worley Tepe was recently recognized by Bullitt County Schools Superintendent Jesse Bacon, featured in the Staff Spotlight for her innovative methods, as she teaches sixth grade math at Bernheim Middle School.

Tepe partnered with Cedar Grove Coffee House, to provide her students with the opportunity to use math skills in determining what goes into the making of a cup of coffee.

Students were visited by Daniel Marin, who explained what he needed from a research team for a product design. The students, acting as the research team, will create their own flavor of coffee and determine the cost-effectiveness of the product.

They will also create samples and a price point.

Marin will then visit again for a presentation by the students, which will include a taste testing.

Depending on the presentation and potential profitability, according to Marin, the students’ product could find its way onto the coffee house menu.

“Ms. Tepe does an extraordinary job of promoting deeper learning in her classroom every day. She’s a big reason that BCPS is “Moving Forward”,” the superintendent said.
