ETHERTON HIRED AS INTERIM DIRECTOR FOR FULTON TOURISM COMMISSION

May 21, 2022

A former Fulton County Transit Authority Executive Director, and past Fulton City Manager has been retained by the Fulton Tourism Commission to serve as Interim Tourism Director, following the resignation of former Director Thea Vowell last month.

Kenney Etherton will begin his interim duties on May 23, maintaining an office in Fulton's City Hall.

Fulton Tourism Commission members Derrick Jackson, Pat Frazier, Connie Smith and Melanie Gunn were present for the 6 p.m. special called session May 20. Board members Zac Browning and Terri Harvey were absent.

Jackson provided a drafted contract for approval by the board to pay Etherton $3,000 per month, for a term of six months or until a permanent Tourism Director is hired. No benefits are included in the pay.

Jackson abstained from the vote to hire Etherton, stating Etherton was his uncle.

Frazier, Smith and Gunn voted in favor of the hire.

For the full story about the May 20 special called session, as well as a special called session of the Tourism Commission earlier in the week during which discussion was initiated regarding the hiring of Etherton, see the May 25 edition of The Current.

Etherton recently retired from the Fulton County Transit Authority.
